Distraction

A week in, the mountain prayer
to be found. The sacrifice:
never to drink any drink
but water from here on out.
Then the thought of friends
cracking beers, 10 years in,
and the realization that I

would fold on the promise.
Then the thought that God
would—must—understand
such mortal behavior.
And then the hope that He
will reward such honesty
even from this place of need.
