Role Model

The honeybee that lands upon the honey,
barefoot as some Carmelites
among a glut of riches—

Wonder Bread and
sandwich meats,
cheeses, nuts, and juices—

Treads lightly on the interface,
trembles through its body with
the light the honey makes, vibrates

The viscous veils between the maker
and the made, anoints
itself in carob, chestnut, clover, mint,

In all that it can fall into directly,
an annihilating sort
of self-absorption.
