Alondra de la Rosa

White
Bright white
Whiter than white

Adidas

Held in the left hand,
Unfurling from the pointer
and middle finger

A salutation to the world
Who put her in foster care
Who put her in Kansas
Who gave her braces

These shoes aren’t meant to be worn, no
She knows how fast her soft-socked
Feet can slide down a hallway

These shoes are heavy and big and white
Like platinum, like peace
