Meditation
I lost myself
Inside the green;
My gaze it wandered far.
Each leaf and blade
And slender stem
Entwined around my heart.
Until no more
Did smoke or sound
Recall me to my place.
And I forgot
With Whom I sat
Ignoring Beauty’s face.
And then a Voice
Broke through my thoughts
In shame I bowed my head;
‘Oh worship not
The green I made
But worship Me instead.’
Then I, contrite
Returned His gaze
And drank in love’s Reward;
‘Help me to be
Enthralled, entranced,
With only Thee, my Lord.’
