A step forward for Deep Down Things

Dear friends,

We’re pleased to announce that we are now able to compensate contributors to the Deep Down Things blog. This past year our subscriptions to the print magazine have increased, which gives us more flexibility to continue supporting writers. We also continue to be indebted to the Collegium Institute for their generous support.

We’re wanted to take this step for quite a while and are thrilled we now have the resources to offer $50 per accepted submission. It’s not as much as we’d like to offer by way of stipend, but it’s our way of making at least a humble acknowledgment of the value of your artistic contributions.

I cannot tell you how many people regularly contact me about how essays printed at Deep Down Things have deeply affected them. Beauty is, in its essential nature, encouraging and life-giving. Your creative efforts make the world a more beautiful place. Your works are an open door to transcendence, gesturing in that modest manner of all beauty to the font of life itself. Thank you for your work.

Begging your indulgence for my sporadic reading schedule, you are all welcome to make blog submissions of non-fiction essays in the arena of beauty, culture, and art directly to my inbox - michaelrennier at gmail.com. If you have questions about the style or content of writing we prefer, I would recommend reading back through published work already on the blog.
