Sarah Hempel Irani studied art in the classical tradition at Hillsdale College in Michigan under the tutelage of Anthony Frudakis, and later worked as an apprentice to Jay Hall Carpenter, former Artistin- Residence at the Washington National Cathedral. In 2002, she was awarded the Edward Fenno Hoffman Prize of the National Sculpture Society.
